Can't select "Edit Bookmarks" in Safari any longer

I'm running OS El Capitan and Safari 11.1.2. DuckDuckGo is my default web page. Some time recently, whenever I try to edit my bookmarks by clicking on "Edit Bookmarks" in Safari, my Bookmarks page flashes briefly and then a Google search page is shown. About the same time, I noticed that when I launch Safari, the Google search page is brought up instead of the DuckDuckGo page. I checked and DuckDuckGo is still set up as my default web page. How can I do to get to my Bookmarks page again so that I can rearrange additions? I can still add a new Bookmark, but not change the order in my Favorites bar across the top of the screen. Thanks.
