I’m wondering if you can use two HomePods like a walkie-talkie? We have two bedrooms at some distance from each other. At night we might need to reach each other urgently. Maybe our iPhones aren’t easily accessible. Thanks.

I wouldn't rely on Homepods for anything that is urgent!
In any case I doubt if it can be done with the current software. It would be nice if Siri could understand "Tell Homepod 2 to say 'call me' ", but that seems unlikely.
It would also be nice to be able to use an app on an iPhone to get it to send your spoken words to a selected Homepod via Airplay2 (I.e. using a Homepod as a PA system) - search the App Store for "air microphone" (but read the reviews first - most don't seem to work as described)
