I have a self-playing and looping Keynote diasshow. I want to export it to an USB stick which can be plugged into a TV and start playing all by itself. In the old days, you could do this from PowerPoint, as PP included a PowerPoint Player in the export file. I have talked to Apple Support .... they cannot help. I have tried to export to a movie, but this cannot be set to auto-repeat or loop.

Unless you connect a Mac computer to this TV, copying the Keynote project on to a USB flash drive will be of no use; smart TV's can not run the Keynote application or understand the Keynote file format.
What Keynote can do, is export the presentation to a series of jpeg files which are then copied to a USB flash drive formatted as MS DOS FAT. The rest is down to the specific TV.
Most smart TV's have a slide show facility built in, with appropriate settings, the jpeg images will play one after the other for a set duration, with a transition between each image and will loop continuously.
