Panning not working properly

Hope someone can help.

when recording guitar either through a mic or out of a line six pod the panning doesn’t seem to work like it use to. I record the same guitar piece twice in mono and then pan each one to 47 left and the other to 47 right which gives it a great sound but this has stopped happening because when I pan either track I hear the track out of both speaks, before if I recorded one track and panned it completely left then nothing would come out the right and vice Versa but that’s not happening anymore. I’ve gone rogh5 back to basics checking cables and watching videos but seem to be doing everything correctly but stilll no panning apart from as I pan it go a little quieter but still hear it completely out of both speaks even through headphones.

Just follow your signal downstream.

If you record to a stereo track, you can see the panning on that track's meters unless there's plugins on it making it mono

If you record to a mono track, you can see it panning on the Stereo Out's meters unless there's plugins on the Stereo Out making it mono

If you can see panning on the Stereo out, your audio interface's control software makes it mono

hi, thanks for the reply and help. Ive sent a link to my dropbox of a video showing that its in stereo no problem but when I pan it left or right it gets quieter but you can hear it clearly out of both speakers. when I record a guitar track twice (not copy and pasting) it doesn't sound any different than a bit louder where as before you could hear a great difference in sound. thank you

You've sent a link to your dropbox of a video - but if you don't publish this link here, what is the use?

The way you describe it sounds like somewhere in your signal chain (either in the computer, or in your attached hardware) left & right are merged into one. The "getting softer as you pan" is the Pan LAw in Logic at work (panning hard left or hard right lowers the volume by 3 dB).

Is music that you play via iTunes or any other player still in stereo?

Can you apply panning (by independently moving the right and the left sliders) in Audio MIDI Setup application (audio window, output)

Can you please write down your entire signal chain, from interface input(s)>interface software setup/Audio MIDI Setup>Logic input channelstrip>plugins on that strip>ouput channelstrip (and plugins)>interface outputs> amplifier/monitors?
