Widex ComDex for my hearing aids does not pass along alerts

I have Widex ComDex bluetooth receiver paired to my iphone and hearing aids. Ringtones work fine, but alerts do not. I am suspecting that alerts are so short that by time the phone wakes up the bluetooth and that gets transferred to hearing aids, the alert is over.

A simple solution would be to take my alerts, add 5-10 seconds of blank time and then add in the alert so that this will work. Can alerts I have bought from itunes be converted into a longer playing alert as I just described?

I have been able to take longer ringtones for alerts and get them to work as alerts so I suspect it is either the duration or the type. But ringtones are generally to long and are a song verses a simple sound.

What is your suggestions?
