Safari won't force quit, keeps Re-opening

I just updated to Mojave from High Sierra. But, before that upgrade, I noticed I could not quit, force quite, activity monitor quit Safari. It appears to be quitting and the little active dot under the icon goes out, but a few seconds later, it opens with no action on my part. I shut downed and started. I did the PRAM reset. I unplugged, waited a minute. Replugged.

Not sure if it is related, but the fan is constantly on from startup, wake up. Exhaust air is cool.

I have a iMac 21.5" (late 2013), 512g SSD drive, 16G memory.

I appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Safari doesn’t stay quit?

There is installed on your Mac.

Use  the latest release of MalwareBytes for Mac to remove malware/adware.

     Install guide:       https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-1817

     Uninstall Guide:  https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-1190

The installer may ask you to allow it in Security & Privacy  /System Preference. Allow it.

Click the “Scan Now” button. Once done quit Malwarebytes for Mac.

Restart the computer, relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.

For the Safari not quitting, the advice above to install Malwarebyte removed a couple of malware and that worked. But, I still had the fan constantly on problem. Apple Genius reinstalled Mojave even though the problem existed under High Sierra. But, I was impressed. They ran several hours long stress tests to test everything and it was good to know there were no hardware issues. Reinstall of Mojave is the only action they did and didn’t require any resetting of my preferences.

However, a new problem occurred where my iMac would not wake up after sleep requiring me to manual shut down and power on. Another forum helper suggested a startup in safe mode and run first aid. So far that worked, but only for two days. When it did wake up it took about 30 sec to wake up. Some advise it is Mojave issue.

Restart the computer holding down the command - option/alt - P - R keys before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold until you hear the startup chime for the second time. You may need to do this 2-3 times.

Reset NVRAM/PRAM

Try a SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.

Reset SMC

Thanks Dominic23! This worked. Feeling invulnerable because I have a MacOS, I never thought I could be infected. Malwarebytes found 9 threats. Removed them. After following your process. Never heard about Malwarebytes, so researched its authenticity and effectiveness. Gets high ratings. Of course your Level 9 rating adds another input to reliability.

Now, if I can get the fan to stop. Thought this might be another malware or virus too. But Malwarebytes-found malware did not fix this.

Thanks. I went to a Mac adviser online who was brilliant even though my machine is 9 years old and more ancient relic than antique now - and she also advised me to install the Malwarebyte which did the trick. The fan issue cleared up at the same time possibly through her instructions to shut down, disconnect all cables including power, wait 30 secs, press the power button for 10 secs, wait 30 secs, re-attach power leads and other cables power up. Sounds like a bit of a Woody Alan routine from 'Sleeper' but the hocus pocus worked and now it's back to normal. Pretty good after trouble free running for nearly a decade.
