Unlock my Mac

I'm unable to get this to work. The image below is the only thing that I've done so far. Are there any settings on the Watch itself? Anything else on the Mac? (Yes, BT and WiFi are both on.)

Just a thought

Make sure that your Apple ID is using two-factor authentication instead of two-step verification.
Learn how to switch from two-step verification to two-factor authentication.

Yes, I have BT and it is on.

I was getting suspicious regarding Apple's semantics so I locked the screen. The Watch successfully unlocked it. I had incorrectly believed that it would eliminate the need to enter the password for login purposes.

Unfortunately, in my case, I have no reason to ever lock the screen so the feature is useless to me.

Mine works with 2 of my watches. First generation and Apple 4.

Can’t remember how I got my original to work. But when I went to open my Mac Pro the notifications came up “ would like use your Apple Watch 4 to unlock this Mac? “ and said yes took me to the settings. So it is seeing my watch. Have you got your Bluetooth on your Mac?
