Signing into gmail on my macbook Mail

I can't get my gmail to sign in with my mail on my macbook. I've changed my password to my gmail recently and now I can't get signed back into gmail from my mac. I constantly get a notification in the upper right corner of my computer from the settings saying I need to re-sign in. Every time I click on it, and enter my gmail account, and then hit next, the blue bar starts to move on top as if it is loading, and then nothing happens. It just stays like that forever. Can anyone help me with this issue? I've tried changing settings through gmail, and nothing happens. Ill just eventually keeping getting that notification saying "Google Password Required", enter your password for "_____" in internet accounts.
