Using "Drag and drop" to move files in Mojave 10.14.2

Drag and drop does not work the same in Mojave. I'm trying to figure out the sequence that works. I think you must first highlight the "move to" folder then drag and drop the file. To move a second file, you have to go back and first click off the folder then re-highlight it--then the drag and drop works. You cannot drag and drop a file into a folder without first highlighting it. There is definitely a glitch here--I've been dragging and dropping since the mid eighties and have never had problems before. Moving a file out of a folder is equally difficult.

It seems that you are clicking once to select, then immediately click, and that is being registered as a double-click - which opens the file.

You do not need to select first. You can click and drag.

You can change the speed required to do a double-click:

Go to System Preferences->Accessibility->Trackpad & Mouse, and drag the "Double-click" slider to the right. Experiment until you find a speed that works for you.

I was very hopeful that turning on dragging in accessibility would work, but it doesn't. I've been fooling around with options and have discovered that the drag definitely won't work if the file gets highlighted while trying to drag it. It is also very easy to open the name change option on the folder/file. If this happens when you try to highlight the folder, you can't drag a file.

I have found an answer that works for me. I have a new 2018 MacBook Air 13"--this problem seems to be related to the new trackpad rather than Mojave. I went into system preferences, selected Trackpad, and turned off "Force Click and haptic feedback".

"drag and drop" now works the way it has worked on all my previous Apple computers. The keyboard click is also more "normal".

I don't know if I am giving up features I might need, but I'm comfortable with the familiar.

It's not working the same as always for me.

When I try to drag a file to another place, I highlight the file -- as always -- and drag it -- as always -- and the file opens up. So I'm looking at the picture or text file I am trying to move.

Not at all acceptable to me. But I can't find a thing about it, other than this thread, and I would not have known it because "Not sure what you are saying but Drag & Drop works the same..." is what I see in the search engine.

Can you point me to a forum where I can get some answers, please?
