How to you drag a file in MacBook air os mojave v 10.14.5?
I've always clicked on a file and dragged it to another location.
In my new MacBook Air, if I click on the icon, the file opens
If I click on the name, it changes color to change the name
What are you doing to drag?

You are probably pressing too hard. The new Trackpads have Force Touch which has separate responses to different pressures.
You can adjust it in the Trackpad System preferences, even disable the gesture.
