Mojave can't connect to Windows 7 on LAN

Hey folks, just did a clean install of Mojave (10.14.3) coming from High Sierra. Everything works great, except I'm not able to connect to my Windows 7 PC in the other room over the network. Now in System Preferences I've configured the following:

Network

Connection: Ethernet

Advanced--WINS

Workgroup: WORKGROUP

Sharing

File Sharing (Checked)--Options

Share files and folders using SMB (Checked)

When I click "Connect As" and try to sign in as a "Registered User." Credentials are either not accepted or I get the following message:

"There was a problem connecting to the server 'jXXXXXX-pc.'

Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you continue to have problems,

contact your system administrator."

I don't know if my "Registered User" name is incorrect or not. I was not having this problem connecting in High Sierra, and I would also note that Mac drives, folders, and files can be seen on the Windows 7 PC. Can someone point me in the right direction on this?

Solved my own problem on this one, I'll leave breadcrumbs here for anyone else who might be dealing with the same. Issue was on the Windows machine and the account I was trying to login to. Here's what I did to fix it:

On Windows 7 hit WIN+R (Run)

enter "control userpasswords2" and enter

Check your credentials for the HomeUser (or other user) you wish to login to

Go back to Mac and enter those same credentials when prompted after clicking "Connect As"

That solved this issue for me.

I would suggest rebuilding the Home group on Windows 7:

Goto Control Panel--Network and Internet--HomeGroup.

Click "Leave The homegroup" towards the bottom of the page.

After leaving go back to the previous page and click "Create a homegroup." Finish the steps in the dialogue that pops up.

Now hit the Start button and search for "run" or hit Win+R on the keyboard. Type "control userpasswords2" and hit enter.

In the box that opens you should see all the user accounts to login to this PC. You should see an account with the username of "HomeGroupUser$" in the list. If you don't click "Add" and create it. You can add a password to it if you want.

Now when you go back to Mac find your Windows PC in Finder and try to "Connect As" with the "HomeGroupUser$" login. Hope that works for you.

Just a few things to check on the Mac:

Goto System Preferences--Sharing and make sure "File Sharing" is checked on the left hand side. Then click "Options" and make sure "Share Files and folders using SMB" is checked and your account name is checked under the "Windows File Sharing" box.

Then goto System Preferences--Network and click the "WINS" tab. Make sure the "Workgroup" entry matches what your Workgroup is called on Windows 7, usually "Workgoup", "WORKGROUP", or "MS-HOME."
