Unable to AirPlay

Question

Unable to AirPlay

Although both of my HomePods are showing on my Home app (they are in different rooms and not used as a stereo pair) and I can stream music via AppleMusic, neither of them are showing when I try to send music to them via AirPlay.

Would a restart of them be recommended and, if so, is it just a case of unplugging for a while or do I have to remove them as an accessory and set up again? Or is there a way of resetting from the Home app or via iOS?

Unplugging each Homepod should work. Otherwise resetting:

Most times, however, I find it is the transmitting device that caused the problem. For example I fixed it by quitting and re-opening iTunes on a Mac.

Many thanks for your help. In a similar vein, I don't suppose you know why my AppleTV has (90) after it's name in my Apple ID list of devices in settings on my iPhone? I didn't give it that name and I can't edit it at all.

No idea where the (90) has come from, but one of mine shows up as a (2). You might try removing the Apple TV from that list, set the name that you want on the device, then sign into your Apple ID on it to update the name that is displayed.

Same here - my ATV displayed as 'Apple TV (2)' for several weeks. Now it has gone back to just 'Apple TV'. I can't think of anything that I did that might have changed it.

Connecting to Macs for filesharing (nothing to do with ATV) has sometimes resulted in similar naming issues. It seems to be a quirk of the Apple environment.

I've managed to sort mine out by changing it's name in the AppleTV settings menu itself, rather than on iOS. The only thing I did find was that if I called it 'Living Room' it changed it automatically to 'Living Room (2)'. I can only assume that this was because I have a HomePod with the 'Living Room' name and it won't allow a duplicate. That's my theory anyway!
