I just bought a brand new macbook pro 15 inch and every time I receive a message on iMessage and open it, iMessage will freeze for about five seconds before responding. I would not expect this behavior on a new computer. Is there something that could be going wrong or something I can try to reset? I haven't found anything specifically relevant to my issue on google.

I've managed to fix this after digging in. The freeze up was from an unsent SMS message that was stuck in a weird state. When in iMessage, I opened Preferences which immediately pointed out the unsent message and asked if I wanted to ignore or resend. I ended up deleting the entire conversation to remove the message, but you could have resent it likely as well to get it out of the limbo state. Once this was done, iMessage did not freeze up after opening.
Really hope Apple addresses this issue in future updates. The iMessage bug is half the problem - excel freezing is so annoying!
I completely formatted my machine and that didn't help at all. I even returned my brand new Mac Mini and got a replacement and the issue persists.
It's not a cache issue.
Confirmed! Excel is working fine as well.
Is there not any other elegant solution? How much does this effect battery life?
Yup, I cleared all of my User and System caches, and follows the article Bruce_Ww posted, nothing worked. Still freezes on open. Hopefully this gets fixed in a patch.
This seems like a software issue on Apple's end. There's like a 10% chance I open iMessage and it doesn't freeze, but 90% of the time it still freezes, I've tried ever suggestion in this thread and every suggestion of 2 apple support phone calls.
