Using Final Cut Pro X 10.4.5 even though I have Leave Files in Place selected in my import preferences, the Original Media folder of the project is filling up with actual MOV files, not symlinks. How can that be?
This is driving me nuts!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where are you importing from? If the media is stored in a camera card structure or camera archive it cannot be left in place and will be copied to the media storage location.
From another folder on the same drive. Need it be on another drive?
Can we seen the contents of the folder structure in column view? Select HH-DAY1.
That’s right. The way doing it is correct. It gives the application all the metadata about the media so it be handled properly. Usually the camera archives are on a separate drive for backup and security. Then the media is imported from the archive and copied in the library media location on the working drive.
Can you post a screenshot of the folder structure you're importing from?
Being on another drive makes no difference.
The library is called "Helping Hand Master". The footage files are in a folder (at the same level) called "Helping Hand Trip 1".
I was attempting to import the first folder "HH-DAY1" and noticed what was happening.
I think I see what you are getting at. Is it because that is the exact structure my camera card?
Leave files in place STILL copying the media.
