disable and deactivate an imessage on an iphone

I switched to an android phone but wasn't told to switch off my iMessages before the switch, now I am not receiving text messages from my iPhone family, and friends. What must I do to rectify this problem? Is there a link I can connect to, and deactivate my iMessages?
