how to turn off iMessage

Hi all, this is kind of a different question.

I recently switched from an iPhone to a Samsung, but for some reason my phone won't receive texts from my sister who is an iPhone user. The guy at Best Buy told me to turn off my iMessage feature and then I'd be able to receive her texts. I've done all that but still am not receiving her texts. Any advice on how to fix this?
