imessage blocking my texts!

Ok so I have an iPad AND Samsung Galaxy. I just got the iPad and thought it was nice to "imessage" my iphone friends with my apple email. So they all added my apple contact email to my contact name in their phones. Problem is that now they can't text me on my phone!! They can ONLY imessage my iPad! WHY?? How corny is this? This is the 2and simple thing Apple can't do (the first being not able to split my bluetooth between my car and my earbud so only calls go to earbud and music goes to car stereo). What's the deal? I was SO close to buying an iPhone, whew!

Unless you also have an iPhone, your iPad cannot send or receive SMS or MMS messages to phone numbers - as these are Cellular Carrier features. Without an iPhone, your iPad is limited to sending/receiving messages via the Apple-proprietary Messages App.

Native iMessages are directed to Apple recipients by their registered email addresses - and not by their Cellular phone numbers. The Cellular number associated with your iPad’s Data-SIM is only used for account identification and billing purposes.

To use SMS/MMS messaging from the iPad Messages App, your iPhone must be logged-in to iCloud with the same AppleID - and message forwarding to your iPad must be enabled on the iPhone.

If paired with an iPhone, the capabilities of iPad significantly broaden to include Cellular Voice and Messaging services of the iPhone - relayed to the iPad over WiFi using Apple’s continuity features.

I hope this is helpful in clarifying your iPad’s Messaging features.
