Mac Mini 2018 - optical multichannel audio via 3.5 mm headphone jack?

I can't seem to get the final word on whether the 3.5 mm headphone jack on the latest Mac Mini supports optical audio so I can run multichannel sound to my thunderbolt interface's toslink input for 5-channel audio. Some people say yes, but others insist Mac has phased this out already. Thanks.
