Voicemail setup help

I just got a iPhone 8 and when I go into voicemail my only option is call voicemail. How can I get it to list my voicemails like my 7 did?

Voicemail Hello, There is not an option on my iPhone to set up voicemail. In the phone app on the right bottom I see an option for voicemail messages but no where does it give me the option to set one up.

As the article I attached above states under "Get Help with Visual Voicemail":

"If you can't set up visual voicemail, contact your carrier to make sure that your plan supports that feature."

My voicemail doesn’t give me the choice of setting up. It just says call voicemail. So far the only way I can get voice mails is to call it and put in my security code.
