How to Change text tone on MacBook Air Running Mojave 10.14.2

When I am in iMessages and go to Preferences the option for "Message received sound" is grayed out. How do I fix this?

You need to enable "Play sound effects"

How do I turn off sent imessage sound on macbook air mojave? I can't turn off the swoosh sound when I send text messages on MacBook Air using the Mojave OS. Any ideas? I don't want to use do not disturb, I simply want to turn off the sound of sending a text message. I don't have this issue on my old MacBook Air running El Capitan.

Messages app : new incoming message does not trigger the set sound, does not cause a notification to appear Hello, In my brand new, just-installed, MacBook Pro M1 Big Sur I can't get the Messages app to emit a sound or display a notification when a new message is received. I have reviewed the Preferences settings of the application and the setting of Notifications in System Preferences; both seem to be all right, a new incoming message should trigger the chime and a notification should appear. Any idea what I may be doing not right ? Thanks !
