In iMovie 10.1.10, unable to Share with the Mail app, but can't find the Settings to allow.

It's my first time using version 10.1.10 of iMovie, and after creating a Project, I clicked Share, then Email. I saw a notification asking me if I wanted to allow Mail to access iMovie (or something to that effect); I got click-happy, and accidentally disallowed sharing with Mail, and now, I get an error message that says, "Sharing to email has failed." If I click on error Details, it just tells me "make sure that my Mail application is properly configured."

I have endlessly tried to find where the setting is to reverse what I initially did, but haven't found it yet.

Where can I find that setting? Thanks!

I don't think that there is any such specific setting. However, possibly resetting your preferences will solve it. Try restarting your computer and opening iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and selecting to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now try sharing to email. Do it in a different project than last time.

Your share to email may have failed for other reasons, such as too large a file size or some corruption in the file itself.

Do you mean this message?

There are two preference settings that you may want to check:

  • Giving applications access to data from other apps is done in the System Preferences > Security & Privacy. (since macOS 10.14 Mojave)

Open the Panel, click the lock icon, enter your password to unlock the panel. Then add iMovie to the list for "Full Disk Access".

You may also want to add iMovie to "Photos"; if you want to use videos from your Photos Library.

  • For Mail to appear in the Share menu, Mail.app need to be the primary Mail reader to appear in the Share menu. This setting is in Mail > Preferences > General

Thx everyone, for your valuable time. Yes, Leonie was correct in that I mis-clicked on that prompt in the first image that Leonie provided. Neither of the solutions worked, though, so I called Apple Support. Their solution was ultimately to go to Preferences -> Security & Privacy, and click on Automation (and not "Full Disk Access"), which you see in Leonie's second image. See screenshot below. After clicking on Automation, then you see the option below.
