If the above doesn't work, is this happening when visiting all web sites or only certain web sites?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Nope. I have the same problem, it's not malware, it's not an extension, and it's not a bogus website.

Safari repeatedly downloads zero-length text files named "unknown" when loading arbitrary webpages. The webpages are completely benign, and have no downloads on them. Lots of people are reporting this. It's been happening to me for about a month now, but I can't recall whether it started before or after I upgraded to High Sierra.

I have completed the Malwarebytes scan and it says that its clear. I copied and pasted the question from another post. So, my post is somewhat misleading. This has happened only once while my wife partially typed amazon in the search bar and clicked on one of the items that came up. Then it downloaded the files automatically. She then stopped using the computer. I took a look at it. I first deleted the files that were downloaded. As of now, I've tried several searches to visit websites and it has not done it again.
