How to show file name/number in photo slideshow

Hello, is there a way to show the file name while playing an image slideshow on my Mac?

I’m hoping to be able to play a series of photos in a slideshow and be able to mark down the images which my family or I like, so I could go back to edit them. I can’t use the “favourite” function since I am screening the images from my computer to the TV for the slideshow (and my computer is in the other room, so I can’t control the computer when the slideshow is playing).

The few threads I’ve found on this topic are all dated a number of years ago and don’t seem to be as relevant now.

Thanks!

Thanks, I'm still on Sierra but am due to update shortly (just got my external drives sorted and running time machine before I do so). So it doesn't seem like it's entirely workable since even the Mojave workaround is limited to pressing buttons on the keyboard - which means I'll need to be at my computer as I click through the images (rather than when the images are screened as a slideshow in the living room or elsewhere.

If it was a manual click, I suppose a preview with the space bar would still show image file name (which would be mostly sufficient for my purpose), though if it showed metadata including ISO, aperture and shutter speed then it could help when picking between a few similar images. I don't see these in your screenshot though - are these customisable?

I am clueless as to script so I don't think I am capable of delving into that at this time.

The threads are old, but nothing has changed wit respect to slideshows in Photos, since the first release of Photos. There is still no support to show any metadata during a slideshow. Which system version do you have installed?

You have to add all titles manually as a title slide, if you want to see any information during the slideshow.

Or write a script or automator workflow. Here is an example of a workflow to show the titles and the date during a slideshow:

Script: A Slideshow With Titles and Locations and Dates in Photos

You could modify this workflow to include the filenames.

If you have Mojave installed, you could simply export your photos to a folder on your Desktop and browse this folder in gallery view. The preview will show you all metadata to the enlarged photos, and you can use the arrow keys to navigate the to the next image while viewing it enlarged.

Using the Finder for a slideshow in Gallery view:
