Apple Watch series 4

I was wondering if I bought an Apple Watch series 4 and I connect it to my phone but I don’t pay extra in the phone contract. Will it still allow me to connect my phone but I just can’t send messages or make phone calls?

If you buy a cellular watch and do not activate the cellular with your cellular service provider the  Watch will connect to your iPhone and send and receive texts and phone calls as long as the iPhone is close.

By default an Apple Watch tries to use the radios in the paired iPhone via Low Energy Bluetooth whenever possible as the iPhone has larger antennas, better range and a larger battery.

The Apple Watch uses its own radios when it cannot find the iPhone.

This applies for both the GPS only and the Cellular + GPS models.

If you buy the cellular model, but do not activate the contact, it will behave like the GPS only model.

The GPS only model can do everything the cellular model can, as long as the iPhone is nearby.
