Can I "gift" some of my iTunes gift card balance to another family member?

Received several gift cards for holiday, but biggest purchaser is probably my wife. I'd like to transfer or gift some of my balance to her since her. Any way to do that? If so, its not obvious! When I use the "gift" option, it tried to charge my credit card.
