unable to sync home videos to iPad

I am unable to sync home videos, including video I created or tv shows that I ripped from DVDs I own, from iTunes to my new iPad Pro 1 tb. Nor do I know where they would appear on the iPad should I manage to sync them. They do not appear in iTunes, which contains only music, or in TV, where I would expect to find them. "Create iPad or Apple TV version" is grayed out under File in iTunes, which repeatedly has gone through the sync process, then abruptly stopped as it was preparing to copy items. I finally got it to go through a long copy process of some sort, but evidently that did not include my videos. The presumed ability to do this was among the major reasons I invested in the new iPad. I would appreciate some help, and thanks.

I've been using the procedure described in the Apple Support link, still without success. There is no provision for Home Videos shown in the iTunes menus for the iPad or the iTunes summary. I'm trying to sync small videos I made in Photos and, as I said, videos from my DVDs. They appear in the summary's movies category, but the DVDs actually are old tv shows. I could try to move them into TV Shows in iTunes and see what happens, but am not optimistic.
