unable to sync home videos to iPad

I've been using the procedure described in the Apple Support link, still without success. There is no provision for Home Videos shown in the iTunes menus for the iPad or the iTunes summary. I'm trying to sync small videos I made in Photos and, as I said, videos from my DVDs. They appear in the summary's movies category, but the DVDs actually are old tv shows. I could try to move them into TV Shows in iTunes and see what happens, but am not optimistic.

I do know that iTunes doesn't ip DVDs. I use WinX for that, converting them to mp4. Of 10 episodes of a tv program, iTunes will import about 3-4, for each disk, no matter how I try to do it (drag or select add to library)

Perhaps I should add that all of these home videos/tv shows are listed on iTunes under the movies category and will play on my iMac. They just won't transfer to my iPad. I'll check if they appear on my Apple TV. And I could find no way of getting them into the TV Show category on iTunes.

None of those appear on my Apple TV, which does have a Home Video category. For that matter, none of my photos appear on it, either (this does happen if I don't use it for some time, and Home Sharing is turned on).

To paraphrase the famous proclamation, I have seen the problem, and the problem was me. All is now well, more or less (iTunes still refuses to import all my ripped DVDs). Apparently I am both senile and an idiot.

I rebooted the ATV, and now it does show all those videos that do not transfer to my iPad, as well as all my photos.
