Apple Pencil 2 "un-charging?"

I got the 12.9 inch 2018 iPad Pro this past December and the new apple pencil shortly after. The pencil tends to generally work just fine; however, I find that when it is connected and charging on my iPad (whether the iPad is charging or not), the battery percentage actually decreases over an extended period of time if I do not touch the pencil (I.e. overnight). If I remove the pencil from the side of the iPad and replace it as normal, it will show that the pencil is charging and gradually increase the pencil's battery percentage. Is anyone else finding that this happens? Is it normal for the pencil to not stay charged at 100% when it is supposed to be charging?

Hello zozoma,

Thanks for the post in Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you have a concern about the charging of your Apple Pencil.

When you say the battery decreases while connected, how much is it decreasing? Do you find it tends to stay close to 100%, or does it decrease further?

Which iOS version are you running under Settings > General > About? If you're running a version earlier than 12.1.4, here's How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. This may help clear things up!

If you find the issue persists after updating, or if you're already up-to-date, I recommend unpairing and re-pairing the Apple Pencil as your next step. To unpair, tap Settings > Bluetooth > My Devices, and then tap the "i" next to the Apple Pencil, followed by "Forget this device." Then, re-pair it and see how it charges: Use Apple Pencil with your iPad or iPad Pro

If you're seeing the same behavior after the steps above, that's when it will be best to Contact Apple Support to look at your options.
