Possible Virus Downloaded

My brother always emails videos to me that I must download. Since downloading a couple new ones from him, my cursor jumps around while using Gmail and moves from left to right and then stops in the Google search bar. This is also happens in the URL address bar. Should I be concerned? If there a safer way to view videos that he sends through Gmail other than downloading them? I never "save to disc." I never download anything attached to emails from people I don't know.

If you download them then you are saving them to disk.

Do these come as email attachments - they would probably be quite large for email attachments.

Try using another browser (Chrome) and see if the same thing happens with that. If it does then there is an issue with the mouse/trackpad.

If not then you may need to look closer at the original browser.

They come as attachments in Gmail. I didn't realize that downloading them saves them to disc. I'll have to find these files and delete them. I don't have Chrome so I will download it. Do you recommend getting anti-virus software? I'm using masOS Sierra Version 10.12.6. Since it was purchased in 2009, the Mac store said not to download any new OS. Thanks again.

I would not recommend an anti-virus program. They usually cause more problems than any good they might do. There are no known Mac viruses at this time.

Try downloading this program which was written by Thomas R, a long time poster. The program will search for malware/adware The program will do the work for you which makes it easy.

If your computer runs Sierra, you can upgrade to High Sierra if you want to.

How to get macOS High Sierra

Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

Application Compatibility

Also check to make sure there is a compatible driver for your printer.

Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.
