iOS 12.1.4 battery drain

Am I the only one with this issue? Yesterday, or the day before that, I updated my iPhone XR. One thing I've come to notice is that, since I updated it, the battery drains pretty fast. I'd say I'm an average user and I could go the entire day and it wouldn't reach 20%. Now, around 4PM, after being fully charged around 5AM, it's down to 50%. I just find it weird, knowing that I'm an average user, my average screentime is around 2 hours a day, so I don't know what's up.

Me too. First generation iPad Pro 12”, no changes in usage patterns. System monitor apps show nearly 100% CPU usage even after closing all apps the recommended way (swipe up). Because no third party apps can show individual processes running any more, I can’t see which one(s) exhibit runaway CPU usage. Rebooting, provides temporary relief. Maybe a runaway Spotlight plugin? A network daemon? I wish I could say. Apple needs to fix this.

You replied directly to xtrasolar so did you read 21 pages of suggestions and user experiences?

Nice to have a cpu usage monitor though. 100% with all apps closed Is interesting .

To save you reading, backup and use itunes to restore to factory “as new” status (must use itunes, not just delete all data and settings) or hope for a fix soon. I wouldnt want 100% cpu for very long. I lost a macbook that way.

I'm also noticing that if my iPhone battery is at 80% and quickly drops to 20%, a charge will, within about 30 minutes bring it back to near 80, and will take an hour or two to then reach 100%.

That is normal. iPhones fast charge to 80%, then reduce the charge rate to avoid overcharging. Once the phone reaches 100% it stops charging completely.

That does not match the symptoms of most in this thread.

Anyhow you need to work out why my 6s works perfectly and yours does not. Having a common factor of 12.1.4 simply proves it is not the iOS but something different on yours.

Still showing constant 1% after a full restore suggests a busted battery to me.

I did read enough to learn that the iTunes reset won't necessarily fix this issue. My iPad was fine before the update, and now it has this problem. I don't see any reason to subject myself to the aggravation of an iTunes reset when it doesn't appear to resolve the issue.

Please note an addendum: this problem *is* intermittent, for me. For the most part, battery drain is fine, but from time to time (perhaps when I cross wifi zone boundaries?) the iPad will grow warm, my system monitoring app shows nearly 100% activity, and the battery drains very quickly. This did not happen until the latest update; therefore, I will point to the update as a probable culprit and/or trigger for the issue.

It appears that many are having similar issues; no changes in the way a phone is set up and used, but once the update was applied, the battery drain accelerates rapidly. This happened to my 6s and my Ipad 5th generation which is less than a year old. I traded in the 6s for a 7 (as there were other issues) and the brand new 7 drains the battery fairly quickly. I did not use a backup in restoring my new phone after purchasing the 7 in the event the backup was corrupt, so it was a brand new install. I find myself plugging in my Ipad and new Iphone whenever I'm at my desk rather than leaving it unplugged as I used to do. I hope with the number of posts related to this, Apple will address it soon.

I have relatives who went into an Apple store and resolved their battery draining issues as one of the tech suggested reinstalling an older OS on their phones. My son-in-law uses his Iphone for work and would sit and watch the draining drop within minutes. I don't know how to access an older OS but would definitely do it if I could without having to drive an hour to an Apple store. Does anyone know how to access a pre 12.1.4 OS?

I'm willing to try 12.2 as it can't be any worse than 12.1.4 (I hope).

It's good to find information that others have this same issue, although it's certainly not good that this is happening.

I have just experienced the same problem with my iPad6 battery, although I've had iOS 12.1.4 for a few months now without incident.

Until now I've had no issues.

This morning, my iPad unexpectedly had no battery.

I do charge it on a regular basis, and have optimized all my Settings for healthy battery life

My battery 'chart' history shows a graph that just drops to nothing, despite also showing very low usage during the same 24 hr period preceding the loss of power.

The only thing different was my use of Pages, which showed as 90% of my use during the last 24 hours. With iOS 11 I'd used Pages with no affect on the battery.

I'm not willing to rebuild my iPad on my own, and am taking it to Apple.

I, too, did not see the upgrade directly on the iPad so I connected it to my PC and applied the upgrade via iTunes. It took about 10 minutes.

BTW, We04ndy, If, before you upgrade and while you're connected to iTunes, perform a backup to computer with encryption, about 3 minutes at most (encryption will preserve any passwords saved on the iPad should you have to perform a restore). I did these on my PC, but the process is identical on the MAC.

that's why happened to me, the battery sat at about 62% for a few hours after playing music/podcasts during that time. All of a sudden the sound stopped and the phone had turned off. When I turned it back on, the batter reported in at <10%. After an overnight charge, my iPhone 6s seems to doing ok today. I'm going to give it another 24 hours including a full charge over night tonight.
