I purchased an iCloud locked iPad from a pawn shop. Thinking I could factory reset it and that would be that, new iPad! I did factory restore it, but it is still linked to previous owner! I can't return it. Are there any alternatives? Expensive paperweight!

Unfortunately not, as the recipient from the pawn broker will not be accepted as a proof of purchase like the original owner would have, which would be acceptable to remove the activation lock.
