Spotlight showing old contacts after reindexing

When I search for a contact, Spotlight displaying multiples of all my contacts, some are valid - some are old. I have ensured all the contacts are up-to-date and re-indexed Spotlight multiple times.

When I select one of the old contacts, it launches Contacts and displays my contact, not the updated for the person for which I am searching. I have backed up my contacts and deleted all of my contacts. Now when I search, Spotlight still displays the old contacts, and when I click on it, it launches Contacts and display a blank address book.

Is there a way to delete the existing address book files, so I can restore my contacts without a history? Alternatively, doesn't anyone have a suggestion on how to solve this issue?

Thanks, Oily
