Repeating space key and other phantom spaces on MBP 2018

Hey,

So I've been noticing some really strange behaviour whilst typing. Whilst touch-typing on my MBP keyboard, I notice phantom spaces appear whilst I type. This happens only one the MBP keyboard, so isn't an issue for external ones.

I've tried the suggestions from other topics on here regarding Keyboard settings and repeating keys and the repeat delay. But this doesn't seem to help.

Worryingly it's getting worse - which leads me to believe this is a hardware thing.

Could anyone shed some light on this? I _really_ don't want to have to take my machine in for repairs, it's still got that new machine smell.

An update: I took my machine to the Genius bar, who identified the membrane that they use on the 2018 MBP might be causing this issue.

Unfortunately even after replacing the spacebar the issue is still happening. So I'm going to have to hand over my machine for a few days for the replacement of the whole keyboard.

Hopefully this will help anyone else having issue with random space being added as they type.

You say 2018— but do not specify exactly the Mac / model / year(?). Maybe you bought it in 2018 however...

There was a service program for keyboard replacement on models from 2015-2017 but not for "2018" models

Verify in >System Preferences>Keyboard>Text double space with period(?)

Thanks for the reply. Generally when people write the year next to the device it's which year the model came out.

Going with this tradition this is the MBP released in 2018. I knew about the replacement programme and hoped they'd figured something this basic out.

yeah same with me. I can s ee you are still plagued by it. The annoying thing is that it does it within words ("see" before).
