iMessage on iPad without iPhone

If I have an iPad with Wi-Fi only, will I be able to use iMessage without an iPhone?

Yes, you will have to use it with an email address only though. You cannot associate it with a cellular telephone number without an iPhone. You also will not be able to use SMS/MMS texting in the messaging App without an iPhone.


But iMessage, between fellow Apple device users, will work with any standalone iPad, iPod touch, Mac or iPhone. All iMessage needs, minimally, is an email address to receive at (so the one you use with your AppleID or any others registered with your AppleID) and an internet connection (WiFi or cellular data connection).
