Updating MacBook OS without battery

Hi,

The battery of my 2012 MacBook air doesn't work anymore, so I can only use it while plugged in. Not a big problem for me, however, I can not install the latest updates as it gives the error that "The MacBook needs to be on the charger to update". Does anyone know how to fix this?

Change battery or change MacBook Hello y'all, I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) and it has performed superbly in the 8 years that I have been using it. I still have no complains, but the battery needs servicing and I am wondering how long my laptop will last. I have a few question for the community: 1) Is there a way to check the general state of the computer? It would suck to change the battery and see the computer die of other reasons in a few months. I am not doing any heavy work with this computer, basically using Word, writing emails and occasionally watch a film or a show. 2) Is Apple not providing any more macOS updates for this model? Macbook Pro 17' battery not charging after OS update Updated from Mojave to Monterey today and it broke my battery. Have had absolutely no issues prior to this update and my battery still allows for 2-3hrs of run time when fully charged. Anyone have a solution for broken battery after updating OS? Seems to be a common issue and I don't have the luxury of bringing or sending my laptop in for repair (nor the extra funds to pay for it). This is very obviously a software issue. I'm pretty appalled that apple would continue to offer their OS update CLEARLY KNOWING that this is a common issue. Tried different outlet, different charger, resetting SMC - to no avail. Hoping someone has successfully solved this issue. On another note - is there an easy way to restore an old version of OS without wiping my entire computer?

A lot of things won't work that way. Replace the battery while your Mac is still supported. Once it is considered "vintage" your options become limited, unattractive, and expensive.
