Does upgrading the 2018 Mac Mini RAM void the warranty?

I see a lot of mixed answers on this. Some say yes. Some say no. Heck, I went to an Apple Store and asked staff about it. The 1 I asked wasn't 100% sure, so he went and asked 2 others. According to them; "Yes, the RAM is user upgradable" is what they said, but I didn't press the "Does it void my warranty?" question after that. I should have. Even with that answer from Apple employees, I've mentioned this in the macrumors forums & people there said "I wouldn't trust the word of an Apple employee", which I find funny. If I can't trust the word of the staff, who can I trust on the subject?

Has anyone here done a RAM upgrade & then brought it to Apple for service? What did they do about you upgrading the RAM? Or does someone else have something more to add to this subject?

Paying $600 for an install of something that only costs $200 seems a bit over priced, even for Apple.

Yes but will void the warranty as it is not approved by Apple:

"Mac mini (2018) does not have user-installable RAM. You can configure the memory in your Mac mini

(2018) when you purchase it. To upgrade the memory in your Mac mini (2018), go to an Apple Store or

Apple Authorized Service Provider."

Dude, the only thing the poster wants to know is if it’ll void the warranty. It will. And no, you can’t bring third party memory to the store and have them install it for you.

8GB of 2666MHz DDR4 SO-DIMM memory

Configurable to:

16GB, 32GB, or 64GB

I interpret this to mean it is not user-upgradeable. Apple is charging $200 to provide 16GBs of RAM. $600 for 32GBs of RAM. You are not paying $600 for something that costs $200.

Here are the instructions for replacing the memory in the 2018 Mini. The memory is socked like that in the 2012 Min. However, a lot more disassembly is required to replace the memory in the 2018 Mini. It is compatible with replacing the upper drive in a 2012 Mini.

Ask them for instructions then. Or embarass them with another complicated question and post their answer here. At any rate, not sure if you're wasting their time or they, yours.

Now let me repeat: The RAM on the Mac mini 2018 is not user-upgradeable. So yes, you’ll void the warranty.

As mentioned; RAM is user upgradable but not easy to do.

What do you currently run on your Mac(s) besides the native macOS apps?

If you say not much, then you should be fine running 8GB of RAM.

If you say some, then stream-line on 8GB for a year, then upgrade.

If you say heavy, then DIY or pay Apple.

Dude have you not seen any youtube videos at all? Amazon and OWC sell memory specifically for the Mac Mini 2018. The Mac Mini is user upgradeable the only thing I cant answer is if it will void your warranty. Getting to a chat specialist is very difficult on this website if you dont own the mac you have a question about. I was watching a youtube video that said you can bring the 3rd party memory to the apple store and they can install It for you at the genius bar. Thats what I was trying to find out and how I landed here.
