Final Cut Pro X will not show an already added transition

I added a "wipe" transition to two separate clips located in the timeline. both of the clips are fairly long and there is not an error message that appears. The only problem is that the transition will not show when playing the project. even when exported, the transition will not show in the project file. It does, however, show that there is a wipe transition in the timeline and I can adjust, edit, etc.

Any solutions? I've tried restarting computer, restarting application and redo-ing transition.
