Unable to access raw photo files on Synology NAS since OS update

I do photo processing on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, late 2013) using Photoshop CC. I keep my files on a Synology DiskStation NAS, since they are huge and quickly jam up the MacBook storage space.

Since I updated my OS the other day to Mojave 10.14.3, I have not been able to open my raw photo files (.NEF) from the DiskStation in Photoshop/Camera Raw, instead getting the "could not complete your request because the file was not found" error. I can still access and open all other file types from the DiskStation. The actual raw files are not corrupted - when I download them to the computer they open up okay, and my husband, attached to the same NAS, can pull my raw files and open them on his MacBook Pro with a not-recently-updated OS.

Both Photoshop and Camera Raw have the most recent software updates. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop just for the heck of it and that wasn't any help.

So it seems like it's the OS update that has created this snag, as that's the only variable that has changed. Do I have to wait it out or is there something else I can do to avoid complicating the workflow?

I just downloaded a Nikon Z7 .nef photo to my Synology Diskstation mount point named photo while on macOS High Sierra 10.13.6. I then unmounted it. On another Mac running macOS Mojave 10.14.3, I remounted this photo location, and directly accessed the .nef from that share using Affinity Photo 1.6.7.

Some points. I have no version of Adobe Photoshop installed on either Mac, and am running a very old version of the Synology DSM software (5-2-5967 Update 1) because of the older hardware restriction. I can see the .nef image in a Finder thumbnail, Quick Look, and open in Preview, and import into Photos — all from that Synology mount point.

You didn't say what version of Photoshop CC that you are running but I believe that the consensus is that CC 5.0 is kaput on Mojave, and 5.5 and 6.0 struggle. Of course, Adobe wants you to be running Photoshop 2019.

If you are running a version of Photoshop that Adobe stopped supporting years ago, it may have met its match with Mojave. I am less suspicious about the version of DSM software on the Synology causing this issue, than the Photoshop version/Mojave indigestion.
