iPad 1st Gen boot loop on a dead battery

I just got an old iPad 1st Gen and it hasn't got charge for a long time. When I plugged in to the original power adaptor, it immediately show the Apple logo for about 3 seconds then blank screen then Apple logo again then blank screen and so on. I tried to boot to DFU mode and it works but then I plugged out my cable and the device immediately shut down. I tried to plug in to my laptop but the screen only flickering continuously so I can't boot to DFU mode to restore the iPad. I believe laptop usb ports don't have enough power to charge the dead battery. So basically I'm stuck. Any suggestions?

That iPad is most likely toast. At a minimum, the battery will need to be replaced and to be honest, paying $99 for a new battery for an ancient device, not capable of running the new 64 bit architecture iOS would be a poor investment. Best recommendation is to use the Apple Give Back program, get some money towards an iPad that is modern.
