Extremely bad sound when using AirPods with iMac.

I started a topic a while ago about this issue, but that topic is now locked so I had to start this new one.

Almost half a year after first experiencing this issue, it still occurs every time I use my AirPods with my iMac (Retina 2015). The sound is really choppy, like if the playback pauses for a fraction of a second and this happens really frequently.

It is so extremely annoying, it totally destroys the otherwise so flawless experience with using my AirPods, and it totally destroys the experience of consuming media on the Mac. It's so bad I cannot even use the AirPods with the Mac anymore, I just can't stand it.

Previously I have stated that I think this problem occurred after installing Mojave on the Mac but I'm not so sure anymore. I have found that switching off Bluetooth on my iPhone when I have it nearby potentially makes the sound quality much better, so I suspect the iPhone might has something to do with it.

I have switched iPhone during this period though, so if the iPhone causes it, it is not an issue with my particular phone. I experienced the problem both when I used my old 6s and my new Xs.

I also got my first Apple Watch last summer and I don't know if that can interrupt the signals in some way. I didn't use my iMac much during the summer so that could explain why I in that case didn't recognize the issue until October.

The AirPods work flawlessly with any other device I have used them with, and other bluetooth accessories work flawlessly with my iMac.

This problem is so annoying, and since AirPods seems to get more common every single day, I think this is worth investigating. I have read about many others experiencing similar issues, only with Macs. It is almost embarrassing that they work perfectly with my HP laptop, and awfully with my Mac.
