Strong password offered by Safari not saved in Keychain

This is an incredibly irritating bug that Apple should fix. Safari encourages you to use the strong password it offers when you are setting up a new password for a website and the dialogue says it will be saved in your keychain. But it isn't saved and because the end of the strong password just fades out, you can't even write it down. The result is that next time you log in, you have no idea what the password is and have to mess around setting a new one - and the strong password offered by Safari is useless, because the same thing happens. Anyone else having this issue?

Greetings, Tomdbl!

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!  Making certain that you have the correct password for your accounts is crucial, so I’d like to help.

From my understanding, after having iCloud Keychain create a password for a website, you’re unable to use that password again the next time you visit the site.  To start, I’d recommend checking the AutoFill settings on your Mac using: Autofill credit cards, contacts, and passwords in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

After confirming that AutoFill is set up properly, I’d suggest checking out: If AutoFill doesn’t work in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

I hope that helps and take care!

I don't think that the autofill part is the problem Tomdbl is describing. I have the same issue. The problem is that the suggested new password is not being saved to the keychain.

So in my case with an existing account where I am generating a new password, autofill does work, but it does fills in the OLD password. Since the new one isn't being stored.

Is that what you're describing tomdbl?

That's EXACTLTY the problem. It has nothing to do with autofill. The problem is that when you set a "strong password" with Safari, it doesn't save in keychain OR in autofill. Because the end of the new strong password is greyed out, you can't write it down and save it that way. Which means that you can't log in again without clicking "forgot my password" and setting a new password manually. I just tried it again and it's exactly the same problem.

It's a bug, other people clearly have the same issue, and Apple ought to fix it instead of offering worthless advice on this forum.
