How do I access the mail settings - server, port, etc., like you can on a real computer?

I'm having connection problems with my email. I know the password is correct, but I can't figure out how to access any of the other email settings. I tried clicking the "Advanced…" button, but I don't think the person who labeled it knows what that word means.
