I open airport utility, try to add printer via WPS pin code, and the printer isn't found. have done this a few times now. restarted the airport, no difference. restarted printer, no difference.

I don't understand why the airport cannot find the printer....... and canon's instructions are horrible. how am I supposed to get this router set up to use via wifi ?

thanks but i managed to get it connected and working. the printer doesnt have any way of entering network name and password. and the airport express doesnt have the wps button so that whole route was no good.

what i was able to do was to get the printer to spit out an info page, it had the mac address and the wps pin code amongst a bunch of other stuff. i entered the wps code in the airport utility > add wps printer> use wps pin route and it still didnt work. it timed out waiting for them to communicate. also tried the "first to connect" route and that didnt work either.

lastly i tried just adding the printers mac address to airport utililty as 24/7 access. then i ran through the canon setup process again and it worked.

so i have to assume that adding the printer as a mac address with 24/7 access is what enabled them to finally connect.

Ensure the wireless name is short, no spaces and pure alphanumerics.. not apple type name with spaces and illegal apostrophe.

Make sure the password is also pure alphanumeric mixed case and numbers. Can be longer though if you need more security.

Still no luck then turn off the security briefly and see if the printer can connect.. if it still fails there is some more fundamental issue.. I have found setting fixed channel for 2.4ghz e.g. 9 can also be a help.

No luck at all.. either connect using the LCD display and buttons.. although this is usually painful.. the airport works much better setting WPS to first attempt.. or plug the printer into the computer by its USB port and you should then have access to configure the printer via utility on the CD that came with the printer or which you can download.

airport router cannot find WPS enabled printer?

Have you considered another theory........the very real possibility that the printer cannot find find the router's WiFi network?

WPS does not work all that well in my experience, and I have much better luck simply connecting a printer manually to the WiFi network.......just like you would connect a computer.......scan to locate the WiFi network, select the name of the network to join, and enter the password to connect.

If the printer has a manual connect option, I would recommend that you try that method.

If you try the manual method with your printer and it still will not connect.....while other devices will connect......then you likely have a printer issue, not an AirPort issue.
