Health app and Stepz app

Stepz updated & now have lost the data that was previously downloaded from the Apple Health app. This included info since I have owned a/this phone, which is 2011. Checking the Health app I find that info only available back to November of this year.

What the Heck!! My sister was forced to now pay for the update to Stepz-no other option was displayed. In App Store Stepz info now includes that, yes, they are charging for the app/update. This is still not the upgrade to Stepz Pro.

BTW: does the model of phone (6 Plus vs 8) make a difference?

I'm not sure how the two could be related as far as data is concerned. While the health app saves data on the iPhone, if you do a restore on the iPhone, if you did not use an encrypted backup, then your health data would be lost. As far as the Stepz app, not all app developers have their data saved into the iPhone file system, so their data can be lost quite easily, unless they are backing it up somehow OTA to their servers. I'm not sure how making a payment through iTunes would restore data from Apple, since they don't collect app data and hold it "hostage" as such. I'm guessing that is something the app developer has access to and can unlock it when you upgrade. However, that is just a guess and you would have to ask the developer that question.

You would need to check with the developer of that app to see how they handle backup of their data and how they handle upgrades. That is not an Apple app.

Thank you. That makes sense of course. I just wondered if the 2 were “connected”, as in data loss on one effecting the other. I got the Stepz app last summer & when I uploaded the info from Health the history was back to when I purchased this/an iPhone. (I’ve always had an iPhone-got this one~2011) Now histories for both apps only go back toMay 2017. Any thoughts? Thanks again

I understand that Stepz is not an Apple app. However it would seem that, since at the inception of my use of the Stepz app I uploaded all my info (on activity) from the Health app, the fact that I have lost all of my data from Health at the same exact date that I have in Stepz, I am suspicious that the 2may be related. There was a message to the effect of”if you want all of your health data pay $2.99/month...” included with the recent Stepz update! My sister paid the $2.99 and recovered all of her previous data in the Stepz app (which I believe, just like me, she retrieved from Apple).
