iPad Pro freezes when opening large pdf files

It’s frustrating but any time I open certain PDFs, the Files app displays a partial image and freezes up for up to two minutes. These are drawings, usually generated by AutoCAD and emailed to me. They are typically only 1 to 5 MB and only 1 or 2 pages. This started about 6 months ago and is no so bad that I found another app just to view the files. The native pdf viewer just locks up. The only silver lining is that I found PDF Viewer, it’s a great app. Still it needs to be fixed and sometimes I accidentally just click on a file and launch the native Files app viewer, with teeth gnashing while I watch it lock up!

I have found other users who reported similar problems, but no solutions.

iPad Pro, iOS 12

When you say it's a known problem, I wouldn't this is a widespread issue at all. I have no trouble opening large attachments on my iPad Pro 11.

You can wait to see if someone else chimes in with a recommendation. What most people would recommend however, is to restore your iPad and see if that helps. You can restore from a backup per the instructions in this link:
