Blank CD—NOT!

I purchased an MP3 audiobook and my iMac is reading it as a blank CD. I’d like to download the MP3 but I can’t even get the file to show up.

Professionally mastered CDs will NOT appear as recordable CDs... Those disks are not "professionally mastered".

They are recordable disks that were meant to contain the MP3 files you purchased. Either they are blank, or whoever burned them did not master them correctly. This is common when writing data to CDs with Windows. Windows will not close the session and finalize the disk unless you tell it to. It can usually be read fine in another Windows PC, but most other platforms will not be able to read the disk. That includes Macs, Linux, other UNIX variants, and most MP3 capable CD players as found in home and car stereo systems.

What you can glean is how to write an effective post. Your original post above tells us virtually nothing so we are not able to help you. At the very least when posting you should include:

  1. Which iMac you own.
  2. The version of Mac OS installed.
  3. A detailed description of the problem you are experiencing.
  4. What troubleshooting you have already attempted.

None of this information is in your initial post.
