When I highlight an audio track and click functions to click the 'remove silence from audio region" function it doesn't let me. the functions In the middle are not lit up to click on. My advanced tools are on.

Is the device on silent? Have you tried restarting the device? Is the volume up?
Are you sure it is an audio track and not an instrument track? Also, an audio region has to be selected in order to use the Remove silence function.

do you have the advanced features enabled in Logic preferences? Is the region flexed?
Flex functions will disable audio functions if it is on. Sometimes even when you turn it back off, the function won't be available until you make a copy of the audio. Take folder also.
