Received Error Code 1003 When Trying to Make Purchase on iTunes

I tried to make a purchase on iTunes but received a 1003 error code. This came up after getting a message that said "Verification is Required. Before you can make purchases, PayPal must verify your account." I don't recall ever using PayPal before to make purchases on my PC, just my iPhone. Also, I changed my PayPal password today, so I'm wondering if this is somehow connected.

As I was writing this, it hit me that I should try to switch to a direct credit card payment rather than using PayPal, and it worked. I thought I'd still post this in case it helps others with the same issue.
