A Folder Will Not Open

I have iOS 12.1.4. I have recently run into the issue of a folder not opening up when I tap on it. I can swipe down and search for the any of the apps in the folder and they’ll open just fine. If I reboot my phone, the issue is resolved temporarily. But it comes back. Plus it’s not always the same folder when it does come back. I have also tried to remove the apps from the folder and recreating the folder. However, even in Edit Mode, I am unable to open the folder. My next step will be to wipe my phone and reinstall the iOS but I want to see if there are any steps I haven’t thought of before I do that. Thanks.

Good morning abesst73!

I see that you're having some trouble with a folder not opening the way that it should. I'd like to help out.

You could try resetting the Home Screen layout by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout, but be advised that this will reset the location and folders of all apps to their default location on the Home screen. You can learn more about this here: Return iPhone settings to their defaults - Apple Support

If that doesn't work for you, you can try reinstalling the iOS on the iPhone first before erasing the device. This way, you won't lose any data on the iPhone since reinstalling the iOS only overwrites the iOS on the device, and does not affect personal data. However, I do recommended still having a backup first: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Once you've verified that your backup is current, follow the steps below to reinstall the iOS on your iPhone. Keep in mind that this article was written for a different issue, but these steps will still be helpful. Also be aware, you'll want to click the "Update" button and not the "Restore" button when prompted as the "Restore" button will restore the device to factory settings: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen

Let us know how this goes for you. Take care!
