Apple Watch 3 stops working during swim workout

I think it’s crazy that a watch that is supposed to track swimming workouts can break while swimming. It’s obvious that there’s water condensation on the inside of the watch but since it’s out of warranty, I’m being charged $280 to fix it. Has anyone had the same experience? The price is the same as a Garmin watch that tracks triathlon training. Anyone else switch to another watch after this problem? It seems like it must be common.

Before you got in the water did you activate the water lock by choosing a Water Swim or Pool Swim in the Workout App? If you didn't that is why you got water in the watch. When you finished your swim workout you turn the Digital Crown to unlock the screen and clear any water from the speaker. You should hear a sound as the watch clears out the water. It worked on my Series 3 fine.

jmray07, If you have followed Apples Handling Information and had this experience using the SWIM app I would certainly let Apple know about it even if your watch warranty has lapsed. I guess I've been lucky with mine, but I do baby it while using the SWIM app. If you haven't done so my only other suggestion is to refresh yourself in the User Guide using the My Watch app on your iPhone go do General> About> and look at the bottom of the screen for the Apple Watch User Guide. Then under Safety and Handling go to Important Handling Information> Exposure to liquid. I have found this helpful just to review from time to time as the watch is not cheap and not indestructible.
