Is Hardware diagnostics reliable?

hi! I have a MacBook Pro and a folder recently dropped on it. ( I have a post that was dedicated to this ) anyways I wanted to ask is hardware diagnostics test reliable? Also, what part of the hardware does it include. Thanks in advance!

Hardware test is reliable except for RAM test which often doesn't detect marginal RAM. Basically if it reports bad RAM it is but often fails to detect RAM that is inconsistent. The diagnostic test check out the basic subsystems - CPU, graphics, I/O etc. Apple Geniuses reportedly have a more powerful diagnostic tool.
